Plan your visit

Ocean Beach Pier in San Diego opened in 1966 as a sportfishing pier intended to let the public access and interact with the ocean. The City says there is no fee to walk onto the pier and no fishing license is required. The City's renewal project page says a study documented structural problems and found the pier had reached the end of its service life; the City identified potential replacement as its preferred path, citing repair costs, modernization needs, and anticipated sea-level rise. The City says caution signage is posted along the pier and states that swimming, wading, surfing, or skin diving within 75 feet of a City-owned or operated fishing pier is against the law.^[1]
